A crankcase explosion is one of the most serious failures a large engine can suffer. It usually starts quietly, with oil mist building up unnoticed inside the crankcase. Left undetected, that mist can ignite and cause severe damage, lost operating time and real risk to the people on board.

An oil mist detector watches the crankcase continuously and raises the alarm long before a build-up becomes dangerous. On diesel and dual-fuel engines from 2 MW upward, it is a core part of engine protection and a requirement under most classification society rules.

PB Asher is the only company in the UK authorised to supply, distribute and service VISATRON oil mist detectors. We treat oil mist detection as its own department, run by the same engineers who overhaul and maintain engines every day.
